Court Visit
As part of the Crime theme for Modern Studies Intermediate course 17 Blairgowrie High School pupils spent the morning of Wed 20th Jan at Dundee Sheriff Court. They viewed several court proceedings, witnessing both solemn and summary procedures as well as a sentencing court. Kindly Sheriff Duff took time out of a busy morning to offer a question and answer session as well as explaining the judicial system and the wide variety of duties that he carries out in his role. The group role-played by being in the jury selection room then being part of a jury in the court room and finally visiting the jury decision room. All pupils agreed that this was a very effective and fun way to study for prelims!
Activities Days Preparation
Pupils in S1, 2 and 3 will be issued with a booklet containing the choices available for Activities Days which take place at the end of May. Parents or carers should complete the choice form along with the child and it should be brought back to school where pupils will enter their choices electronically during one of their periods in the library. Please note that participation in Activities depends on an acceptable standard of behaviour throughout the year.
The first winners of a free trip during Activities Days were Stephanie Curtis 3T3 and Calum Duff 1G1. (In order to encourage and reward good behaviour pupils with no loggings during a month are entered into a draw for a free trip.)
Raffle Prize Winner
Fraser, a second year pupil at Blairgowrie High School recently donated one of his lino prints for a school raffle. The print is a series of two which raised over £100 towards school funds.
The attached photograph shows Fraser presenting the framed print to Mrs Hilary Nicholson, who is delighted, as the artwork fits perfectly into her colour scheme!

CORE SKILLS DAY
Fifty S4 Business Studies pupils took part in a Core Skills Day organised by an organisation called Business Dynamics on Tuesday 26 January. Sessions on Communication were taken by Nicholas Kydd of Eventful Management. Problem Solving saw pupils making remote controlled cars to save the victims of a natural disaster. Mr Bill Hutchison from Adam Smith College led these sessions. The Royal Air Force got the pupils Working with Others in a range of physical activities where the objectives could be achieved only by operating as a team. Sergeants Keith and McInnes were the session leaders. The day proved to be very successful, with most pupils saying they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
